Shannon Muir Reviews Peter Panzerfaust Volume 1

Peter Panzerfaust Volume 1

Author: Kurtis J Wiebe

Illustrator: Tyler Jenkins

Publisher: Shadowline (an imprint of Image Comics)

Collecting the first few issues of the PETER PANZERFAUST comic series, this story retells the classic of PETER PAN in a World War II context.  A group of French teen orphans find themselves rescued by a mysterious and crafty young American man named Peter who is their age. With their orphanage bombed out, they follow him looking for safety and freedom, learning how to survive along the way. The story unfolds as a man named John Parsons interviews Gilbert Agnew, now an old man and one of the French teen orphans. Though filled with some slightly graphic pages, war is presented honestly and the characters are exceptionally strong. Overall, a very compelling read.
