BOOKEXPO AMERICA ANNOUNCES MEXICO
IS GUEST OF HONOR AT GLOBAL MARKET FORUM
International Initiative to Run Concurrently with BEA
Norwalk, CT, June 7, 2012: BookExpo America (BEA) and Mexico’s Council for Culture and Arts have today announced that Mexico will be the focus of attention and Guest of Honor at BEA’s highly successful Global Market Forum. A key component of BEA for international attendees, the Global Market Forum runs concurrently with BEA activities, and is specifically designed to serve all international attendees as well as all domestic publishing personnel with an investment in international publishing and book industry concerns. BEA’s Global Market Forum has grown in stature and scope since its inception in 2008. Recent focus countries have included the Arab World, Spain and Italy and this year’s program featuring Russia has been the biggest ever with over 50 authors participating in cultural events at BEA as well as throughout New York City.
BookExpo America 2013 will take place June 3 – 6, 2013 at the Javits Center in New York City.
“Mexico is known for its cultural vibrancy and richness, and its world class literature including writers like Octavio Paz, Carlos Fuentes and Rosario Castellanos,” notes Steve Rosato, Show Manager for BookExpo America. “We are very excited to be adding Mexico to our distinguished list of countries who have participated in our Global Market Forum. We are pleased to have a hand in strengthening the bonds that exist between Mexico and the Latino communities in the U.S. and to pay tribute to the great Mexican writers and the new breed of authors writing today. I am sure that our Global Market Forum in 2013 will do justice to the tradition that we have been building over the past five years.”
Consuelo Sáizar, President of Mexico’s Council for Culture and Arts, notes: “Being around books for more than 40 years, as an editor and public official, has taught me the potential of our publishing industry. In this spirit, we have begun digitizing our book collections to preserve the memory of our country and inherit knowledge to our future generations. We are also finishing up the personal libraries of great Mexican thinkers, as a depository of universal ideas. We are proud of who are, where we are coming from and the intellectual evolution of this country. Let’s celebrate Mexico’s literary pulse in NYC with those that share our language.”
BookExpo America officials note that this partnership with Mexico in 2013 will feature professional programs as well as literary and related cultural programs. Numerous events will take place at BEA as well as at other cultural institutions in New York City. All these programs will be a highlight of New York Book & Media Week.
