Rest in Peace Maeve Binchy

I feel like I’ve lost an old friend. I was going through my news reader today and saw the Irish Times report of the passing of Maeve Binchy, author of Circle of Friends, Light a Penny Candle and so many other titles. I am at work so I can’t even allow myself a cry.

To say I loved her books would be an understatement. Her stories spoke of simple things like love, friendship, loyalty and honesty. They often had surprise endings and always focused on the human condition.

She made you think, Maeve Binchy did. She made me want to be a better person, value my friendships, and long for simpler things and times. Her writing stayed with me long, long after I turned the last page will stay with me forever.

I shall miss her more than I can say and when I get home, I will pick up my battered copy of Light a Penny Candle and read it again.

Rest in peace you wonderful, clever and amazing woman.
