Geared for ages 10 and up, this fantasy tale focuses on a young aspiring poet named O (please don’t call her Ophelia), who is sent to stay with her aunt over the summer while her widowed father goes and does research on the poet Ezra Pound. It turns out O’s Aunt Emily(who recently suffered a mild heart attack)  is a bit of a reclusive poet but her main job is owner of a secondhand bookstore called The Green Man. As O starts to help Emily more around the shop, she uncovers a lot about Emily she never knew as well as information about a poet’s group that used to meet at the shop. As she encourages her aunt to revive the gatherings, another deeper and darker mystery unfolds surrounding her Aunt Emily – one into which the Green Man, who can be tied into both life and death, is entwined. Though I think this book may be complicated for some 10 year olds (if their attention span isn’t up to following complex entwined plots), I loved the magical enchantment of the piece as well as the celebration of poetry that it brings to a younger generation.
