David Foster Wallace R.I.P.

The internet and Twitter are abuzz with the sadly confirmed news that David Foster Wallace or DFW is dead.  The Los Angeles Times confirms he hung himself.

I’m beyond saddened by his death.  He was 46, the same age as me.  He was brilliant, the author of The Infinite Jest.  He taught at Pomona College.

I’m numb.  I don’t even know what to say. To lose a brilliant talent like his makes the world a far dimmer place.

From the end of his 2005 Kenyon Commencement Address – May 21, 2005

“It is unimaginably hard to do this, to stay conscious and alive in the adult world day in and day out. Which means yet another grand cliché turns out to be true: your education really IS the job of a lifetime. And it commences: now.

I wish you way more than luck.”

David Foster Wallace – rest in peace.  Que duermes con los angelitos.
