Poetry Friday – Cuitlamiztli Carter

poetry-friday-button

I’m back after a long hiatus from blogging and Poetry Friday.  I have moved AmoXcalli and Cuentecitos over to their own domain, built up my cooking website and started a new blog with my poetry.  I’m in this week with an astounding voice, Cuitlamiztli Carter.

a poem

sunset, eight in the evening

Birds hanging low over the landscape,
that thick taste on the edge of perception.

This is everything I was worried would
become part of my business, the daily
routine of soaking wet prophets &
deaconesses disembarking on my
infernal shore, wanting directions,
hands out for maps & my little words
to take the edge off their distress.
I never thought I’d bite into this.
